My Reflection on Reading

In the four different images I can see different kind of texts, and they are reading for different purposes. Also, the interest and motivation of readers may be different.

Picture 1: Reading for pleasure in a public library. They chose their books and they might be feeling happy and relaxed since they read for pleasure since they are reading books that interest and motivate them for reading.

Picture 2: Reading a textbook, possibly about plants, in a familiar setting. She could be reading for education, for pleasure, or gaining information about the real world. The book was likely selected by her parents or relatives. It can also be a textbook used in school and she may be leaning new things about plants, making connections between what she reads and the real world. The young girl looks curious and interested on the woman's explanations.

Picture 3: using a tablet to read a narrative or short story. She picked the book and she is reading for pleasure. She will have chosen what to read according to her interests, so reading must be enjoyable.

Picture 4: reading a textbook or a book for educational purposes or to engage students in reading. The book may be included in the curriculum or chosen by the teacher. It's hard to say how they might be feeling, I can guess that some students may feel engaged and motivated if the text is related to their interests, but a number of students may feel bored.

Picture 5: Reading a newspaper. It is obvious that the man has chosen what to read. He is reading to catch up on current events or stay informed while commuting

Since I was younger I have always been keen on reading, mostly adventure and mystery novels in my own language. Later I decided to read the same type of texts in English. I also prefer reading textbooks and manuals for pleasure and educational purposes on different topics (literature, history, linguistics, ...). In my daily life I read magazines and newspapers in digital format, both in English and Spanish, specially to get information and to know about the world whenever I have a few minutes available. Besides, I try to read in the language that the text has been written (the language of the author).

For extended pleasure reading, I prefer physical books. I find reading lengthy content online less comfortable. I read newspapers, magazines, instructional texts, manuals online, since it is easier to find them in this format.

I usually read at the weekends in the evening, when I have free time to do it. Sometimes I read before going to sleep.
